Noah Kahan has shared “Draw You Out,” the lead single from the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Stream it below. The song was conceived specifically for the upcoming prequel film, which centers on a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th Hunger Games and is set 24 years before the events of the original trilogy. A longtime fan of the franchise, Kahan approached the assignment by seeking common ground between himself and the character rather than simply writing about him.
The result doesn’t stray too far from his penchant for melancholy. While teasing some glimmers of hope and a “cool beat,” he told Billboard that the song ultimately remains a sad one as he joked, “You’re not really coming to me if you’re looking for heartwarming.”
Songwriting and Production
Kahan also shared that he put in considerable research while working on the track, which he wrote and produced in partnership with Aaron Dessner. “I want[ed] there to be part of me in it, as a way to find parts of me in part of this character, and making sure that I didn’t feel like I was sacrificing either one,” he said. “To be able to speak to what the director sees in these characters, what Suzanne Collins wrote these characters for, and to try to match that is a big task – but a really fun challenge.”
Previous Soundtracks and Upcoming Releases
Blockbuster artists like Taylor Swift, Lorde, Coldplay, and Olivia Rodrigo have all contributed to previous Hunger Games soundtracks. The full Sunrise on the Reaping album will arrive on November 13th via MCA, one week before the film opens in theaters.
Noah Kahan released his fourth studio album earlier this year in the form of The Great Divide, followed by its extended edition, The Last of the Bugs. With the release of “Draw You Out,” fans can expect more exciting music from Noah Kahan in the future. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping soundtrack is highly anticipated, and Noah Kahan’s contribution is a great addition to the franchise’s musical legacy.
