At the dawn of 2026, on January 2nd, Peter Gabriel announced o/i, a new album that follows his 2023 comeback effort i/o. Despite dropping a few teaser tracks in the months since, specific details on the release of the full album remained murky — until now, as the iconic songwriter has finally unveiled the release date, tracklist, and other details for the upcoming record.
Featuring 13 tracks, o/i drops in full on November 27th. Like its predecessor, each song will feature two versions, which differ in their stereo mixes. The “Bright-Side” versions were mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent, while the “Dark-Side” versions were handled by Tchad Blake (save for “Who Are We Talking To?,” which Mike Elizondo mixed).
Also like its predecessor, Gabriel has spent the year dropping a new song with each month’s full moon and new moon. Thus far, he’s shared 10 of the 13 tracks, including “Till Your Mind Is Shining,” “What Lies Ahead,” and “Been Undone.”
o/i Details
“This record has been more of a marathon than a sprint — it’s the longest album I have ever put out, with 13 tracks that complete the i/o / o/i 25-track joint project,” Gabriel stated in a press release. “The songs are a mix of thoughts and feelings. I have been thinking about the future and how we might respond to it. We are sliding into a period of transition like no other, most likely triggered in three waves; AI, quantum computing and the brain computer interface. Artists have a role to look into the mists and, when they catch sight of something, to hold up a mirror.”
The list of collaborators for the album features Gabriel’s longtime band members David Rhodes, Tony Levin, and Manu Katché, as well as members of his touring band like Richard Evans, Josh Shpak, and Don E. Other notable names include Brian Eno, the Soweto Gospel Choir, the Swedish all-male choir Oprhei Drängar, Mike Elizondo, guitarists Leo Nocentelli and Tony Berg, drummer and percussionist Abe Rounds, pianist Tom Cawley, trumpeter Paolo Fresu, cellist Linnea Olsson, multi-instrumentalist Evan Smith, and Gabriel’s daughter Melanie, who provided vocal support.
Physical copies of the album come in 4xCD and 2xLP editions. Pre-orders are available now for the 2xLP (Dark-Side Mix), 2xLP (Bright-Side Mix), and 4xCD (both mixes).
