Andrew Watt Reveals Why Black Sabbaths Final Album Never Happened

Producer Andrew Watt has revealed why a final Black Sabbath album with the original four members rumored to be helmed by him didn’t come to pass. Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi had earlier said that he found Watt to be “too excited,” while also explaining that he was happy with ending the legendary metal band’s recording career with 2013’s 13. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Watt reacted to Iommi’s comments, and gave further insight into why the album never came to be.

Background on the Proposed Album

Watt explained that Ozzy Osbourne wanted to continue making music and had the idea to do something different than the two albums they made, Ordinary Man and Patient Number 9. They discussed making an album with Tony Iommi, but Ozzy was keen on making a Black Sabbath album with Bill Ward, who was left out of the band’s reunion that produced their final album 13 and their farewell tour.

Bill Ward’s Involvement

Watt called Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward to discuss the potential album. All members agreed to participate if Bill Ward was on board. However, Ward was unable to do the album due to personal reasons, which ultimately sank the project. Watt described the conversation with Ward as “one of the strangest and funniest and coolest” conversations he’s had.

Unreleased Ozzy Tracks

Watt also revealed that there are unreleased Ozzy Osbourne tracks, perhaps the ones intended for the proposed Black Sabbath album. Additionally, the concert film Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning had its world premiere on October 14th, with a wide release coming on October 28th.

The Black Sabbath legacy lives on through their music and the concert film Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning.
