Rising Los Angeles band wilt have announced their long-anticipated debut album, when no one’s watching. Due to arrive October 2nd via AWAL, the record is being previewed with another new single, “dent,” and its accompanying music video.
Album Details
Having grown from social media buzz band to Consequence CoSign Sessions performers at Live at Lagunitas, wilt took approached their first full-length as a singular creative unit. Where past music was written and recorded instrumentals first, lyrics and vocals second, the group this time wrote altogether in one room. Instead of self-producing, they tapped Grammy winner Carlos de la Garza (Paramore, The Linda Lindas).
According to guitarist Andy Vance, the album’s title reflects the conflict of inner feelings with outer appearances. “For all of us, and especially singer Chelsea Rifkin, it’s what it feels like when no one’s watching and you’re still struggling mentally and emotionally with everything,” he says. “Even as our career has continued to grow and go in a great direction… It’s that contrast: ‘Stuff is great, but how do I feel when I’m alone?’”
New Single and Music Video
“dent” arrives as what the band calls “our sonic thesis statement.” With a squealing shoegaze guitar on the hook, the track finds Rifkin wanting to “run away” from herself as she admits that “somehow you’re just so depressed/ Nothing can make a dent.” The track’s Ambar Navarro-directed music video — filmed in a sweltering shipping container — is also available to watch.
