Amy Winehouse’s classic 2006 album Back to Black will receive a deluxe reissue for its 20th anniversary. The album, which was recently named as one of the best sophomore albums of all time, originally arrived on October 27th, 2006 and serves as Winehouse’s final album before her death in 2011. Now, the project will be expanded into a clear-vinyl 3xLP, 3xCD, and deluxe digital release, including new artwork and limited edition variants. All formats will arrive on October 23rd via Republic/UMe.
The collection includes unreleased demos, rare B-sides, and a live performance from Paradiso in Amsterdam on February 8th, 2007 from the Back to Black Tour. It also boasts never-before-seen photos by original album photographers Mischa Richter and Alex Lake, new liner notes from producers and friends Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, and an image from Ronson’s archives of Amy’s handwritten lyrics.
Back to Black 20th Anniversary Edition
“It’s crazy that six songs made in a fit of furious musical infatuation would matter so deeply to so many people twenty years later,” said Mark Ronson in a statement. “Amy was one of one,” added Remi. “One-of-a-kind artist. One-of-a-kind spirit. One-of-a-kind soul. Experiencing that level of talent, passion, humour, honesty, and love for what she created was a gift.”
In addition to deeming Back to Black one of the greatest second albums ever, Consequence also named Amy Winehouse as one of the best vocalists of all time for this year’s Vocalist Week: “Her tone was completely unmistakable, raw, jazzy, and full of personality,” the artist GIULIA BE wrote. “She made imperfections feel intentional, and her voice pierces my heart, pouring her truth and pain all at once.”
