The Beatles have released “Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape),” an early version of their classic song that will be included in an upcoming expanded special edition of Rubber Soul. “Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape)” offers a glimpse into the early stages of the track, capturing Paul McCartney and the late John Lennon working through its sound at the latter’s home in Weybridge, Surrey. The duo is heard laughing together as they build upon “an old folk song” Lennon wrote one month earlier, according to a press release.

Upcoming Release

Lennon, McCartney, and the other Beatles would later finish “Day Tripper” during an eight-hour studio session.

This is the second preview of the Rubber Soul reissue after “Michelle (Take 1)” was released alongside the announcement last month. The collection is out on October 2nd and features 24 early session recordings, including 20 previously unreleased takes and three previously unreleased home demos. Pre-orders are ongoing for the Rubber Soul special edition.
