Maurene Comey gets the old heave ho from Justice Department suddenly

Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. A federal judge has ruled that the Justice Department’s firing of Maurene Comey, a former federal prosecutor, was unconstitutional. Yes, you read that right – unconstitutional. Comey, the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, was fired in July 2025, and she claimed it was in retaliation for her father’s vocal opposition to President Donald Trump. I mean, who wouldn’t want to fire someone with a last name like Comey, right? Bless their hearts.

The Justice Department argued that the attorney general has the power to fire anyone, anytime, but the judge wasn’t having it. Judge Jesse Furman said that would be like giving the attorney general unlimited power, and we can’t have that in a democracy. I guess that’s what happens when you try to make the Justice Department a tool for personal vendettas. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

Comey was a highly respected prosecutor, working on big cases like Jeffrey Epstein and Sean “Diddy” Combs. Her supervisors loved her, and she was doing a great job. But then, suddenly, she’s fired. The DOJ said it wasn’t because of her performance, but because… well, they didn’t really say why. Maybe it was just a coincidence that her dad was a thorn in Trump’s side.

The judge ordered Comey to receive backpay until she took a new job as a defense lawyer. I’m sure she’s thrilled to be getting paid for doing nothing, but I’m also sure she’d rather be back at her old job, fighting for justice. Her legal team said this victory belongs to all civil servants and everyone fighting for the rule of law. Aw, isn’t that sweet?

The DOJ is appealing the decision, because of course they are. They can’t just admit they were wrong and move on. That’s not how it works in Washington. But for now, it looks like Comey has won a small victory against the system. And who knows, maybe this will set a precedent for other federal employees who are unfairly fired.

In a statement, Comey told her former colleagues to keep fighting for justice and not to let fear seep into their decisions. She said fear is the tool of a tyrant, and we can’t have that in America. I couldn’t agree more, Maurene. Keep on fighting, and don’t let the system get you down.

In the end, this story is just another example of how crazy things have gotten in Washington. A federal prosecutor gets fired, allegedly for her father’s actions, and it takes a judge to set things right. It’s a wild ride, folks, and I’m just along for the ride, sipping my coffee and shaking my head. And that’s the way it is – or should I say, that’s the way it isn’t, because in this case, the system actually worked, and justice was served.
