The first Scott Weiland live album, titled Scott Weiland: Live, is out today on CD and digital formats following a limited vinyl run earlier this year for Record Store Day. Alongside the album’s release has come a video of the late singer performing Stone Temple Pilots’ “Vaseline” with never-before-seen footage from a concert at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California.
Weiland sounds surprisingly melodic in the performance, avoiding the lower register resonance of the studio performance. This version also features noisy lead guitar work reminiscent of Neil Young, intensifying the no-rules live atmosphere of the cut.
Album Release and Performance
Scott Weiland: Live was captured on the tour for Weiland’s 2009 solo album Happy in Galoshes. It comes just four days before what would have been his 59th birthday on October 27th. Weiland passed away in 2015 at the age of 48 due to an accidental drug overdose.
Watch the previously unseen live performance video of “Vaseline” below, and pick up Scott Weiland: Live at Amazon.
The release of Scott Weiland: Live is a significant event for fans of the late singer and Stone Temple Pilots. The live album and video performance showcase Weiland’s energetic and melodic stage presence, and demonstrate why he remains a beloved figure in the music world.
