Minnesota Man’s Mall of America Plot Foiled, Dreams Shattered

Minnesota Man's Mall of America Plot Foiled, Dreams Shattered

Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about this alleged terrorist plot to attack the Mall of America, and I’ve got to say, it’s a real eye-opener. Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, an 18-year-old from Richfield, Minnesota, has been charged with planning a mass casualty attack in support of ISIS. According to the feds, he wanted to kill as many as 60 people using an AK-47 rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up, right?

The FBI investigation started back in December 2024, and it’s clear that Mohamud was pretty open about his intentions. He allegedly sent messages to an undercover source expressing his desire to travel to Somalia to join a foreign terrorist organization or commit a mass shooting in Minnesota. He even claimed to have joined ISIS a year ago, which is just chilling.

I’ve got to give it to the FBI, though – they did some great work in catching this guy. They used an undercover source to gather evidence, and Mohamud even bought a fake AK-47 from them. I mean, who tries to buy a gun from a stranger in a parking lot? It’s just not the brightest idea.

The messages Mohamud sent were pretty disturbing, too. He talked about wanting to harm Jewish people and even mentioned a specific attack on a Hmong arts celebration at the Mall of America. It’s just sad that someone so young can be filled with so much hate.

The Mall of America has released a statement saying they’re grateful to the FBI for disrupting the plot, and they’re going to continue working with law enforcement to keep their guests and employees safe. That’s good to hear, because the last thing we need is another terrorist attack on American soil.

It’s also worth noting that the FBI tried to speak with Mohamud’s parents about his radicalization back in 2025, but they were rebuffed. Minnesota US Attorney Daniel Rosen said that parents should heed warnings from federal law enforcement if they’re concerned about their child’s radicalization. That’s just common sense, if you ask me.

In conclusion, this whole story is just a reminder that there are still plenty of crazy people out there who want to do us harm. But thankfully, we’ve got law enforcement agencies like the FBI working hard to keep us safe. And to Mohamud, I’ve got to say – you’re not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, are you? I mean, trying to buy a gun from an undercover agent? That’s just a recipe for disaster. Anyway, I’m going to go refill my coffee cup and try to forget about this whole mess. 😊
