Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about SpaceX’s latest earnings report, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. The company beat earnings expectations, which is great, but they’re still burning through cash like it’s going out of style. I mean, who needs profitability when you’re chasing a vision of a Mars-colonizing future, right? SpaceX brought in $7.8 billion in revenue in the April-June quarter, which is up 92% from the same period in 2025. But, they lost $541 million in the second quarter, following a $4.3 billion loss in the first three months of the year. Yeah, that’s a lot of cash.
The results were well above what analysts were expecting, which is always a good thing. They had estimated revenue of $6.8 billion and a net loss of $1.9 billion. So, SpaceX is doing something right, even if they’re not making a profit. Yet. The company’s first-ever quarterly earnings report showed that they’re still investing heavily in their vision for the future. And by heavily, I mean they spent $18.4 billion on capital expenditures in the second quarter. That’s a lot of money, folks.
Most of that money, $16 billion to be exact, went to their xAI business. Analysts expect the company to top $45 billion in capex for the year. That’s a staggering amount of money. I’m not sure what’s more surprising, the amount of money they’re spending or the fact that they’re not making a profit. Morgan Stanley researchers said that management commentary will be much more relevant to the stock than quarterly numbers for the next few quarters. So, we’ll have to wait and see what SpaceX’s executives have to say about their plans for the future.
SpaceX shares have been volatile and trading well below their IPO target. They fell nearly 2% in after-hours trading. I’m not sure what to make of that, but I’m sure the investors are keeping a close eye on the company. After all, they did just spend $18.4 billion on capital expenditures. That’s a lot of faith in a company that’s not making a profit. Yet.
It’s interesting to see how SpaceX is going to play out. Will they make a profit? Will they colonize Mars? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure, they’re certainly making headlines. And that’s what matters, right? I mean, who needs profitability when you’re making headlines? Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a story that’s still developing.
In conclusion, SpaceX’s earnings report was a mixed bag. They beat expectations, but they’re still losing money. They’re investing heavily in their future, but it’s unclear if it will pay off. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be an interesting ride. And I’ll be here, sipping my coffee and watching it all unfold. With a company like SpaceX, you’ve got to expect the unexpected, and that’s what makes it so entertaining. So, buckle up, folks, it’s going to be a wild ride.
