Weezer have unveiled “C.E.O.,” a brand new single from their upcoming self-titled album (aka The Gold Album). Despite the potentially annoying name, the song feels musically aligned with the two previous singles, “We Might As Well Be Strangers” (featuring Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman) and “Shine Again”. This time around, though, Rivers Cuomo and company tackle the “passage of time and the pressures of trying to meet the demands of your own inner C.E.O.,” according to a press release.
New Music and Tour Dates
The corresponding video for “C.E.O.” features Weezer joined by their own gaggle of uber talented, executive-level folks, including Tony Hawk, Curry Barker (director of Obsession), Dax Flame, Chit (aka Jay Renshaw), Rob Riggle, Rob Huebel, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Without revealing too much, it sees Weezer butt heads with the corporate music biz as they try and maintain both their old-school sensibilities and still change with the times.
In other news, Weezer have expanded their upcoming “Weezer: The Gathering” world tour with new dates in Japan, Europe, and the UK. For these dates, which take place in early 2027, Rivers Cuomo and co. will be joined by Taking Back Sunday.
Album Details
Weezer previously announced a 32-date North American run taking place in the fall featuring special guests The Shins and Silversun Pickups as support. Serving as their 16th studio album (and 20th overall), Weezer came out of the back-to-basics sessions with all four members of the group – Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner – at their rehearsal space.
Co-producers Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume (fka Kenny Beats) took different approaches to the album, with Blume explaining in a statement that he wanted to make “the most violent Weezer album ever,” while Åhlund took a more mathematical approach. The drums were recorded with all four members of the group playing live.
