Cro-Mags singer-bassist Harley Flanagan says he’s “done grinding it out on tour,” citing the physical toll and rigors of life on the road. His declaration comes right as the legendary New York hardcore band announces a re-recording of its 1986 debut album The Age of Quarrel.
Cro-Mags Announce Re-Recording of Debut Album
Cro-Mags have just announced a re-recording of their 1986 debut album The Age of Quarrel, which has been dubbed The Age of Quarrel: 40 Years of Quarrel and will arrive November 13th. In advance of its release, the band has unveiled a music video for the song “World Peace.”
Harley Flanagan stated of The Age of Quarrel: 40 Years of Quarrel: “It all started with the making of the Wired for Chaos movie, but there were several reasons for revisiting The Age of Quarrel. None of the people who played on the original record ever got paid, and none of us ever received an accounting of the album’s sales. For years, I tried to reunite the original lineup to re-record it and reclaim the rights to The Age of Quarrel and Best Wishes through the Copyright Reversion Act. But I couldn’t get everyone together to take back ownership of the music, and that window has now closed.”
Flanagan’s Decision to Stop Touring
In an Instagram post, Harley Flanagan wrote the following message to his fans: “I don’t know how many more I got in me… But it’s winding down… I’ve been on the road since the 70s. Even Vinnie Stigma can’t say that. lol This used to be an escape from living in squats. I don’t live in a squat anymore. I still enjoy playing music. I just don’t enjoy traveling. I have nine more shows booked after this tour. I’m gonna take a break for a little while and think this through, my new album is almost done I have a few more songs to finish and it may be the best one I’ve ever written that’s all I want is to write one good album that really makes me happy. Then we will see what happens…
Harley Flanagan also followed that up with a few video posts revealing how much pain he is on Cro-Mags’ current tour, pointing out that he has pinched nerves in his neck and lower back, but vowing to finish the remaining shows of the outing.
Upcoming Tour Dates
For now, Cro-Mags are wrapping up UK/European tour, and will return to the States for a handful of gigs in late August and early September, including a few gigs with Suicidal Tendencies. They’ll also play the Aftershock festival on October 4th in Sacramento, California.
