Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest news on Nidal Hasan, the guy who carried out that horrific massacre at Fort Hood in Texas back in 2009. It seems President Donald Trump has approved the use of a firing squad for his execution, and I have to say, it’s about time. I mean, this guy killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the attack – it’s a pretty horrific crime.
I’m reading that the Pentagon announced this decision on Monday night, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended death by firing squad for Hasan. Trump approved it, and now the time and place of the execution will be set by Hegseth. I’m thinking, finally, some justice for the victims and their families.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell posted on X that Hegseth will take care of setting the details for the execution, calling Hasan “the jihadist who opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009.” Parnell also reminded everyone that Hasan killed 13 people and wounded 32 others during the attack, and said “Judgement day for Hasan has finally come.” You can’t help but feel a sense of relief that this guy is finally going to face the consequences of his actions.
Hegseth replied to Parnell’s post with a simple “Justice,” and I think that says it all. This is a story that’s still developing, and I’m sure we’ll hear more about it in the coming days. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer is probably thinking about how to spin this story to get the most views, but for now, it’s just a straightforward case of justice being served.
As I finish my coffee and put down the paper, I’m thinking that this is a story that’s been a long time coming. Nidal Hasan’s actions were horrific, and it’s about time he faced the consequences. And let’s be real, a firing squad is probably the most fitting way for him to go – it’s a pretty dramatic end to a pretty dramatic crime. All in all, it’s a good day for justice, and a good reminder that some crimes are just so bad that they deserve the ultimate punishment.
