Grand Theft Auto VI Details Revealed in Extended First Look

Netflix has premiered an “extended look” at Grand Theft Auto VI, which arrived several hours before the clip drops on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel at 9:00 p.m. ET. The preview arrives less than three months before the hotly anticipated game releases on November 19th.

The 26-minute video shows off plenty of gameplay footage of protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos interacting with characters ranging from street-level drug dealers and veteran bank robbers to semi-retired drug runners. It also depicts simple day-to-day interactions between the couple, such as holding hands, and offers a glimpse at some of the activities for when you’re not on a mission.

Check out the five biggest takeaways from the Grand Theft Auto 6 extended look below.

Being Nice to Animals Pays Off

A recent Dazed magazine cover story revealed that a player’s actions will have “deeper” repercussions on Jason and Lucia’s relationship than the Red Dead Redemption honor system. In the clip, an angel icon pops up after Jason chooses to pet a dog rather than scolding or studying it.

Gunplay Looks Smoother and More Refined

No one has ever confused a Grand Theft Auto game for a shooter, and it’s likely that combat won’t be as smooth as players would like in GTA 6. Based on the gameplay footage, however, regular aiming looks much smoother. More importantly, it looks like there is a slow-mo mechanic that has been carried over from Red Dead Redemption 2.

Hand-to-Hand Combat Is Also Improved

There’s a glimpse at a dodge mechanic at one point in the extended look. Toward the end, Lucia gets overpowered in a brutal fight and has to complete some quick-time events to escape. She ends up stabbing her attacker in the face with a stiletto heel, which looks pretty badass.

Some Jobs Will Only Be for One Character

While most of the gameplay in the extended look shows Jason and Lucia working side by side, there is one job offered to the couple with the caveat that only one of them can take it. While Lucia accepts this time, you’ll likely be able to choose which character takes the job.

There Are More Activities Than Ever

In addition to Lucia on the bench press and Jason shooting hoops, we see them scuba diving, swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, racing cars, and skydiving. And of course, you can engage in more adult activities like visiting a strip club.

Grand Theft Auto VI is available for pre-order on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is highly anticipated, and fans are eagerly waiting to get their hands on the game. With its improved gameplay mechanics, new activities, and engaging storyline, Grand Theft Auto VI is shaping up to be one of the best games in the series.
