Deafheaven have surprise released a new EP titled At Work in the Fields of the Bomb. A music video for the single “Hunter” will premiere at 10 a.m. ET on Friday. The band is currently on tour with Mastodon and Alcest as part of the “Poisonous Weapons” tour, which is set to conclude on October 22nd in Atlanta.
The new EP, At Work in the Fields of the Bomb, borrows its title and central concept from Robert Del Tredici’s photo book documenting the ordinary places and people involved in the production of nuclear weapons. The EP explores the unsettling contrast between the unimaginable consequences of the bomb and the mundane actions that make such destruction possible, focusing on the choices and systems that lead us toward irreversible moments.
Music and Tour
“Hunter,” much like stand-alone 2019 single “Black Brick,” showcases the heavier and more feral end of the band’s sound. Those expecting clean shimmering melodies will be left wanting here, given the ferocious black metal that sounds closer to Beherit or Immortal than previous sonic touchpoints Envy or the greats of Cascadian black metal. Deafheaven are currently on tour with Mastodon and Alcest as part of the “Poisonous Weapons” tour, which will conclude on October 22nd in Atlanta.

At Work in the Fields of the Bomb will be available to order via Deafheaven’s webstore. The EP features three tracks: “Hunter”, “Three Princes”, and “Sorry Laid The Hearth”. The music video for “Hunter” will premiere at 10 a.m. ET on Friday.
