Power Trip have released their first new music since the tragic passing of frontman Riley Gale in 2020. The Texas thrash-metal band has unveiled the double single “Precinct 3” / “Scavenger.”
It’s been nearly 10 years since Power Trip’s last album, 2017’s acclaimed Nightmare Logic, and the band, with new singer Seth Gilmore, hit the studio for these new songs with their late frontman in mind.
New Music and Upcoming Shows
Regarding the song ‘Precinct 3,” guitarist Blake Ibanez stated, “When we were writing this, we wondered what Riley Gale would have wanted to write about. So once we decided on that approach, it honestly came really easily — the lyrics were flowing and it just felt like the right way to kick off this new chapter and honor him. I think he would have been stoked to see it come to fruition.”
As for “Scavenger,” Seth Gilmore said of the song’s lyrical content, “There are people out there that ride along and develop some sort of self-importance from association. And from there, they wield that in the wrong directions. Or maybe even against the same people they leeched it from.”
The tracks were recorded at Empire Sound in Carrollton, Texas, and co-produced by Jacob Hansen (Arch Enemy, Volbeat, Amon Amarth) and Blake Ibanez. The band is continuing to work on a full-length album that will be released in Spring 2027.
Tribute to Riley Gale
Riley Gale passed away in August 2020, with the cause of death determined to be a pulmonary edema resulting from an accidental fentanyl overdose.
Power Trip returned to the stage three years later in December 2023, playing a surprise five-song set with Seth Gilmore on lead vocals. The band has continued to play shows since then, with dates coming up supporting Slayer on October 21st in Mexico City, playing the Sick New World festival in Fort Worth, Texas, on October 24th, and performing at Pantera’s Great NOLA Trendkill in New Orleans on November 20th.
