Well, folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. A man named Paul Child was driving with his grandson near Spokane, Washington, when they spotted a suspicious character pacing on the side of the road. They didn’t think much of it at first, but things took a turn when they saw the same man again 15 minutes later, this time acting nervous and bent over near some bushes. As it turns out, a fire broke out in the same area, and Child’s account of the man helped law enforcement identify a suspect – 37-year-old Aaron Farinacci.
Now, I’m not one to jump to conclusions, but it sounds like Farinacci has a history of, shall we say, interesting behavior. He was arrested and charged with first-degree arson, and his bond was set at $1 million. The investigation is still ongoing, but it looks like the fire was ignited by a match or lighter – a pretty disturbing thought, if you ask me.
As I was reading through the article, I couldn’t help but think about how frustrating it must be for the people affected by these wildfires. I mean, tens of thousands of people evacuated, hundreds of homes destroyed… it’s just devastating. And to think that one of these fires might have been intentionally set? That’s just heartbreaking, as Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson put it.
It turns out that Farinacci has a bit of a violent past, too. He was convicted of manslaughter and aggravated assault back in 2012, and he spent 12 years in prison. I’m not sure what’s more surprising – the fact that he was released from prison in 2020 or the fact that he’s already in trouble with the law again.
Now, I know that everyone deserves a fair trial, and I’m not here to pass judgment. But bless their hearts, it’s hard not to wonder what might have driven someone to allegedly start a wildfire. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this whole thing plays out.
