Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest poll numbers, and it seems like Latino voters are not too thrilled with President Donald Trump and his party. A new NBC/Telemundo poll finds that Latino voters have soured on Trump, particularly on economic issues. I mean, who can blame them, right? The economy can be a real challenge for anyone. According to the poll, Latino voters say by a 24-point margin, 59% to 35%, that they’d prefer to see the Democrats win control of Congress over the Republicans in November. That’s a pretty significant gap.
The survey also shows that Trump’s approval rating among Latino voters is pretty low, with only 27% approving of his job performance overall. And when it comes to the cost of living, an even smaller 20% approve of his handling of the issue. Now, I’m no expert, but it seems like the economy is a big deal for most people, and if you’re not doing well on that front, you’re going to lose some support.
It’s also interesting to note that although Latino voters give Trump a marginally higher 30% approval rating on immigration, two-thirds say that his administration has gone too far in its approach to immigration enforcement. Roughly one-quarter say they know someone who has been deported or detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the past two years. That’s a lot of people who are personally affected by these policies.
The poll also finds that a 62% majority of Latino voters rate the Republican Party as a whole negatively, up from 46% in September 2024. And they say, 48% to 27%, that they believe the Democratic Party would do a better job than the GOP of dealing with the economy. I guess that’s not too surprising, given the economic concerns that many people have.
Another poll, this one from CBS/YouGov, finds similar results. Latino likely voters say, 60% to 39%, that they’d favor a Democratic candidate over a Republican in their House district. Among the full electorate, the poll finds that likely voters favor the Democrats by a 9-point margin. It seems like the Democrats are doing something right, at least in the eyes of these voters.
The CBS poll also finds that a 56% majority of registered voters say they think Trump is doing a worse job in his second term than he did in his first term, and 70% say they believe his policies have led to higher prices for food and groceries. Wow, that’s a lot of people who are not happy with the way things are going.
In conclusion, it seems like Latino voters are not too happy with President Trump and his party, particularly when it comes to economic issues. The poll numbers are pretty clear, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the upcoming elections. As I finish my coffee, I’m left wondering what the future holds for Trump and the Republicans. One thing’s for sure, though – it’s going to be an interesting ride. And who knows, maybe they’ll turn things around and win back some of those voters. But for now, it looks like the Democrats are the ones with the momentum. Bless their hearts, they’re certainly trying to make the most of it!
