Folks, I’m sitting here with my coffee, reading about Vishal Garg, the former CEO of Better, and I just can’t help but think that this guy’s story is like a soap opera. I mean, he gets fired, and then he claims that the new CEO, Daniel Lewis, “hoodwinked” him? That’s some serious drama right there. According to Garg, Lewis said all the right things to get on the board and gain his trust, and then – BAM! – he’s out, and Lewis is in. You can’t make this stuff up, right?
Garg’s had a pretty rough ride as CEO, what with laying off 900 employees on a Zoom call and all. I mean, who does that? But, despite all the controversy, he claims that he was just about to turn the company around. He says they were on pace to deliver $200 million in sales this year, and they’d even partnered with some big names like Intuit and Coinbase. Not too shabby, if you ask me.
But, of course, Lewis had other plans. He came in, convinced the board to fire Garg, and now he’s the new CEO. And, let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride ever since. The stock has fallen 45% since Lewis took over, and investors are freaking out. I’m no expert, but it seems like maybe, just maybe, they should have stuck with Garg.
Garg’s not going down without a fight, though. He’s retained some high-powered lawyer and is demanding that the board return him as CEO. He’s even offering to work for $1 a year until he gets the company back on track. That’s dedication, folks. Or, maybe, it’s just a bunch of hubris. Either way, it’s been entertaining to watch.
I’ve got to wonder, though, what’s really going on behind the scenes. Is Lewis just trying to sabotage Garg, or does he really think he can do a better job? And what about the board – are they just a bunch of yes-men, or did they really think Lewis was the better choice? It’s all pretty shady, if you ask me.
In the end, it’s all about the Benjamins, baby. Investors want to see returns, and if Garg can deliver, then maybe he’s the right man for the job. But, if Lewis can turn things around, then maybe he’s the better choice. Either way, it’s been a wild ride, and I’m just here for the popcorn.
As I finish up my coffee, I’ve got to say that this whole ordeal has been pretty amusing. I mean, it’s not every day that you see a CEO get fired, claim they were “hoodwinked,” and then try to stage a comeback. It’s like something out of a movie. And, who knows, maybe Garg will get his job back, and everything will be sunshine and rainbows. But, until then, I’m just going to sit back, enjoy my coffee, and watch the drama unfold. 🙄
