Courtney Love Recovering And Readies New Album

Courtney Love checked in with a life update via an Instagram video on Friday evening, revealing that her long-awaited new solo album is done, and that she is now “healthy” after almost dying in 2020. The video update starts out with the Hole frontwoman mentioning the album, saying, “A lot of you asking on my record is at. It’s done. It’s kind of been done. It’s a really good record. I put a lot into it.”

In the caption of the video, she elaborated a bit, writing, “I wanted to give you an update on my record. When I made it, I believed this was my last record so I made the record I always wanted to make. I was in the hospital mostly but when I wasn’t, all I did was write & record it. I want to tour more than anything. & I want to sing. That’s what keeps my soul & body happy.”

New Album and Health Update

She also thanked Butch Walker, Will Sergeant, Billie Joe Armstrong, Melissa Auf Der Maur, and others for helping her with the album. Meanwhile, her video update went on to address her health, revealing, “I went to England in 2019, and when I went there, you know, my body just exploded. It just exploded, and I was in hospitals a lot. I almost died. I lost all my hair. I was about 100 pounds, and they told me I was going to die, and I didn’t believe them.”

While Courtney Love didn’t mention any specific illness in the new video, she revealed in a March 2021 Instagram post that she was hospitalized in August 2020 with anemia and had weighed 97 pounds at the time. She also said she was slowly getting back to health with the help of CBD.

Reflections on Her Past

In the new video post, she went on to say, “When I was a kid — I think this record is about this — I used to like, pattern-interrupt the adults, and they’d tell me ‘red.’ They’d say ‘red was blue,’ and then I’d see blue, but blue was blue. So now that I gaslight myself that maybe, maybe they were right and red was blue, and then I would see purple, and my head would explode. Like fucking cope with that shit, right? I think some of you can relate to that. And then, anyway, I never really lost my ability to see that fucking that ‘red was red,’ despite them telling me that ‘red was blue.’

Courtney Love added, “And so when they said, ‘You’re gonna die,’ I just didn’t believe them. And somehow I got better. I’m healthy, which is amazing.” The singer also addressed the disappointment of her last album with Hole, 2010’s Nobody’s Daughter. “It flopped,” she said, “[We were] playing a place called Pizza Hut Park while Limp Bizkit was headlining with Thirty Seconds to Mars. That shit’s humbling.”

She ended the video by saying she’s trying to figure out how to release the new solo album, which would be the follow-up to her lone solo effort, 2004’s America’s Sweetheart. Meanwhile, Hole’s 1994 album, Live Through This, made Consequence‘s new list of the 100 Best Sophomore Albums of All Time.

In conclusion, Courtney Love’s latest update has given fans a glimpse into her life, including her new solo album and her journey to recovery. With her health back on track, fans can look forward to new music and potentially even a tour. As she navigates the release of her new album, Courtney Love remains a prominent figure in the music industry, with a legacy that includes iconic albums like Live Through This and America’s Sweetheart.
