Tarantino Pens Cliff Booth Novel Ahead Of Film Adaptation

Quentin Tarantino may be holding off on directing his 10th and final film, but he’s definitely keeping busy creatively. Not only did he write the script for the upcoming David Fincher movie The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth (a sequel to Tarantino’s own Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood), but Variety reports that he’ll also be publishing the novel The Adventures of Cliff Booth this December, just before Mis-Adventures begins streaming on Netflix.

According to Variety, both versions of Cliff Booth’s story take place in 1977, eight years after Once Upon a Time. The book’s official logline, via Amazon: “Hollywood, 1977. The Swinging Sixties are long gone—but Clifford Booth keeps on keeping on…War hero, stuntman, bartender, cinema projectionist . . . with the occasional “clandestine services” for his friends. . . .”

Novel and Film Details

A few decades ago, it was common for every major motion picture released in theaters to receive a tie-in novelization, though this situation feels closer to when author Arthur C. Clarke published his version of 2001: A Space Odyssey after collaborating with Stanley Kubrick on the screenplay for the film.

Tarantino’s novel is set to be published on December 8th, 2026 — two weeks before December 23rd, when The Further Mis-Adventures begins streaming on Netflix. David Fincher’s film, starring Brad Pitt, will receive an IMAX release beginning on November 25th, part of Netflix’s increased commitment to theatrical releases for some titles.

Previous Work

This is Tarantino’s second Cliff Booth novel: the book version of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood was released in 2021.

Tarantino’s novel and the upcoming film The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth are highly anticipated, and fans of Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher are eagerly waiting to see how the story of Cliff Booth unfolds in both the book and the movie. With the success of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, it’s likely that both the novel and the film will be well-received by audiences and critics alike.
