Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and trying to wrap my head around this tragic story from Michigan. Apparently, five people were killed and a suspect is dead after an extensive search around two homes and a wooded area. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up, right? The police were responding to reports of a shooting at a home in Missaukee County, about 169 miles northwest of Detroit, just before noon when they found three people dead and another in critical condition. The person wounded was taken to the hospital, bless their hearts.
As I’m reading this, I’m thinking, how does something like this happen? The suspect, Chad Hickman, 39, fled before law enforcement got to the home, according to police. I guess he didn’t want to stick around to face the music. The police were warning the public that Hickman was armed and dangerous, and told community members not to approach him. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and I can see why.
The police conducted a large-scale search for Hickman, and they found a fourth person dead at another home. I’m starting to think this guy was on a mission, unfortunately. They also found Hickman’s vehicle in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake, which led them to his body as well as another individual who was also dead. It’s just a mess, folks. The police are still investigating and haven’t released information on how each person died or whether they had any relation to one another.
Lt. Ashley Miller said in a statement, “This situation is heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved.” I couldn’t agree more. The police are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and will provide updates as new information becomes available. They’re asking the public to avoid the area, which is probably a good idea.
The names and ages of the people killed are not being released until their families have been notified, according to police. I can understand that. It’s just a sad story all around. As I’m finishing up my coffee, I’m thinking, what a terrible way to start the day. The police have a lot of work to do to figure out what happened here.
