Libraries Go Green: Because Books Aren’t the Only Thing We Need to Share

The British Library is hosting a webinar series about libraries and the climate crisis. Because nothing says “saving the planet” like discussing Dewey Decimal System while the ice caps melt.

Andy Appleyard will talk about their £100 million Yorkshire site expansion. Nothing screams “circular economy” like building a third automated storage facility, right?

Onyebuchi Ekpolomo from Nigeria will share insights from her LinkedIn newsletter “The Professional Librarian.” Because who doesn’t want sustainability tips from someone with a weekly newsletter?

Marion Kunderan leads Scotland’s “Lend and Mend in Libraries” project. Finally, a place where you can borrow a hammer AND feel morally superior about it!

Maja Maricevic chairs the event. She’s interested in “big challenges of our time” like digital transformation and climate change. Because apparently, those are equally pressing issues.

The series explores how libraries can build capacity for climate action, enable citizen science, and support circular economies. Because when I think “environmental hero,” I definitely think of my local librarian.

Live captioning will be provided. Because saving the planet should be accessible to everyone, even the hard of hearing!
