Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about Mitch McConnell’s health issues, and I have to say, it’s a bit of a rollercoaster ride. According to House Oversight Chair James Comer, McConnell’s staff is hoping the senator will return to Washington when the Senate comes back into session on September 14. Now, I’m no doctor, but I think it’s great that they’re aiming for a specific date, considering McConnell has been out for a while due to health issues.
Comer said he hasn’t spoken to McConnell directly, but he communicates regularly with the senator’s staff, which makes sense since their offices work together on matters for their state. I mean, it’s not like they’re trying to keep it a secret or anything, but it’s nice to know that Comer is in the loop. When asked if McConnell is expected to be back at that time, Comer said, “I expect that. I sure hope so.” Well, I hope so too, Comer, I hope so too.
Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “Big Elephant, what’s the big deal about McConnell’s return?” Well, let me tell you, it’s a big deal because the Senate is currently in a five-week recess period, and they’ll be back in session on September 14. And, as Comer said, “I have not talked to Leader McConnell. I’ve talked to his staff, many of whom are from my district originally. And they have all said it’s their goal for Senator McConnell to be here when the Senate comes in.” So, it seems like everyone is rooting for McConnell’s return, and I am too.
McConnell’s spokesperson, Stephanie Penn, told CNN that there are “no scheduling announcements at this time,” which is a pretty standard response, if you ask me. And, of course, McConnell’s spokesman, David Popp, referred CNN to the office’s latest statement, because that’s what spokespeople do. The former Senate majority leader, who is 84 and not running for reelection, was admitted to the hospital on June 14, and his office didn’t disclose the reason for the hospitalization at the time. Later, it was revealed that a fall had landed him in the hospital, and he’s been recovering ever since.
It’s been a long and winding road for McConnell, folks, but it seems like he’s on the mend. He moved to a rehabilitation center to continue regaining his strength and later announced he was discharged in early August and would continue to recover at home. So, let’s all keep our fingers crossed that he’ll be back in Washington soon, doing what he does best – being a senator.
In conclusion, it’s great to see that McConnell’s staff is optimistic about his return, and I’m sure he’ll be back to his old self in no time. And, who knows, maybe he’ll even be back in time for the Senate’s return on September 14. Wouldn’t that be something? Anyway, that’s the latest on McConnell’s health, and I hope you found this update as fascinating as I did – said no one ever. But, hey, at least I got to finish my coffee while reading about it, so that’s a plus.
