Arsonist Achieves Impressive Wildfire Streak

Arsonist Achieves Impressive Wildfire Streak

Folks, I’m sitting here sipping my coffee, reading about the wildfires in Washington state, and I just can’t believe what I’m seeing. Apparently, the alleged arsonist, Aaron Farinacci, 37, has admitted to igniting not one, not two, but over two dozen fires since last year. I mean, what is wrong with people? Court documents show that he’s admitted to starting the first of three devastating wildfires in Washington state last week, and now he’s facing five counts of first-degree arson. I’m no expert, but that sounds like a whole lot of trouble to me.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – how did they catch this guy? Well, it turns out that detectives have corroborated four of the fires that Farinacci admitted to starting, and prosecutors are saying that the criminal charges may be amended as they learn more about his, ahem, “handiwork”. I’m just shaking my head over here, thinking about the damage this guy has caused. I mean, fire crews are still working to contain the fires in the Spokane area, and they’re preparing for another round of strong winds and intense heat. It’s just crazy.

I have to wonder, what was going through this guy’s mind? Did he just wake up one day and think, “You know what would be fun? Starting a bunch of fires and watching everything burn!”? I guess we may never know, but I’m sure his attorney will come up with some kind of explanation. CNN has reached out to the attorney for comment, but so far, no word. I’m not holding my breath, though – I’m sure it’ll be some kind of excuse or justification.

The thing that really gets me is that this guy has been doing this for over a year, and nobody caught on until now. I mean, I know the authorities have a lot on their plate, but come on! It’s not like he was being subtle about it. Maybe I’m just too cynical, but it seems like it took them a while to connect the dots. Anyway, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this story as it develops.

As I finish up my coffee, I just have to say that this whole thing is just wild. I mean, who starts over two dozen fires and thinks they’ll get away with it? It’s just mind-boggling. I guess the old saying is true – “you can’t fix stupid”. And on that note, I’ll just leave you with this thought: if you’re going to start a bunch of fires, maybe don’t admit to it in court. Just a thought.
