Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest drama between President Donald Trump and Democratic Gov. Wes Moore, and I’ve got to say, it’s a real circus. Apparently, Trump blocked Moore from speaking at an event near Baltimore where they were unveiling a new multi-billion-dollar investment in submarine manufacturing. I mean, who doesn’t love a good submarine manufacturing announcement, right? But seriously, it’s a big deal, with the Navy awarding a $2.9 billion contract to defense tech firm Anduril to make components for Virginia-class submarines.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, why would Trump block Moore from speaking? Well, it seems Moore played a role in negotiating the deal, but Trump still didn’t want him to share the stage. A White House official said Trump had “graciously” invited Moore to the event, but only as a guest, not as a speaker. Yeah, because nothing says “gracious” like telling someone they can’t speak at an event they helped make happen.
Moore, on the other hand, is not having it. He told reporters, “If the president of the United States wants to bring the circus in town and tell me that I’m not allowed to speak, despite the fact we were the ones that helped bring the deal, then I will let the circus be conducted while I go back to the work of the people of Maryland.” Oh, snap! I’ve got to give it to Moore, he’s got some sass.
The White House official responded by saying it’s “unfortunate” that Moore is “making a multi-billion dollar announcement about himself by throwing a tantrum over a federal initiative.” Okay, okay, we get it, the White House thinks Moore is being a bit dramatic. But come on, who wouldn’t want to take a little credit for bringing in a big investment?
It’s worth noting that Trump and Moore have a bit of a history, with Trump trying to bar Moore from a governors dinner at the White House last year. And, of course, Moore is considered a potential 2028 presidential candidate, so this little drama might be a preview of things to come.
In the end, it’s all just a big show, folks. Trump is going to give his speech, and Moore is going to go back to work, and the people of Maryland are going to get some new jobs. But hey, at least it’s entertaining. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll see Moore and Trump going head-to-head in a presidential debate, and that, my friends, would be a circus worth watching. 🎪
