Trump’s DOJ Finds Another Creative Way to Troll Ilhan Omar

Trump's DOJ Finds Another Creative Way to Troll Ilhan Omar

Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest drama surrounding Rep. Ilhan Omar, whose DC-area home was searched by federal officers on Monday. Now, I’m not one to jump to conclusions, but it’s interesting to note that she’s been a frequent target of Trump, who has often used his Justice Department to go after his political enemies. Trump claims he wasn’t involved in the search, but it’s highly unusual for the Justice Department to execute such aggressive investigative steps so close to an election. You can’t make this stuff up, right?

I mean, let’s look at the facts. Trump has pardoned 9 of the last 11 Republican congressmen to be convicted of federal crimes. That’s a pretty impressive record, if you ask me. And on the flip side, his Justice Department has indicted, tried to indict, or taken reported investigative steps against at least 13 Democratic members of Congress since he returned to office. That’s a lot of investigative energy being spent on one side of the aisle.

Now, I’m not saying that all of these investigations are unwarranted. Some of them might be legitimate, like the one against Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who resigned from Congress in April amid a bipartisan finding of ethics violations. But others, like the one against the six Democratic members of Congress who were accused of cutting a video telling members of the military not to obey illegal orders, seem a bit thin. I mean, isn’t that just standard guidance for service members?

And let’s not forget about the pardons. Trump has pardoned two former Democratic members of Congress, but one of them was former Rep. and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was once a contestant on Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice” and became a staunch Trump ally. The other was Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas, whom the president seems to have pardoned in hopes that he would change parties. That’s some interesting math, if you ask me.

As I read through this article, I’m struck by the sheer number of investigations and pardons that seem to be politically motivated. I’m not saying that’s necessarily a bad thing, but it’s certainly… interesting. And it’s worth noting that Trump’s DOJ has backed off previously existing investigations or cases involving several Republican congressmen, including Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee and former Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska.

In conclusion, it’s clear that Trump’s Justice Department is playing a game of political hardball, and it’s not always clear what the rules are. But hey, that’s just politics, right? As I finish my coffee, I’m left wondering what’s next in this saga. Will Rep. Ilhan Omar be indicted, or will this investigation fizzle out like so many others? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: it’ll be entertaining to watch. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll get to see Trump’s reality show “The Justice Department” – now that’s a show I’d pay to see!
