Etsy Is Selling a $139 Old West Blasting Machine — Don’t Pull the Handle

TNT

Etsy has a rather unusual piece of Old West-inspired decor for anyone who thinks regular home decorations are a little too boring: The Forgotten Blasting Machine, a handmade replica of an old mining blasting machine.

The piece is handmade in Charlotte, North Carolina, using polymer clay, epoxy resin, and acrylic paint. The surface is deliberately weathered with fake rust, dirt, scratches, and other details designed to make it look like a forgotten piece of mining equipment.

It measures approximately 4 × 10 × 10 inches and is listed for $139.

The most recognizable feature is the T-shaped handle. Real blasting machines used similar mechanisms to generate an electrical current for firing electric blasting caps used with explosives.

These devices became associated with mining, construction, railroad work, and other blasting operations during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This particular machine, however, is not an antique and contains no explosives. It is a modern, completely inert decorative sculpture inspired by historical blasting equipment.

So, basically, it looks like something you might find buried next to an abandoned Old West mine after a century of dust and rust.

Except somebody made it in Charlotte and put it on Etsy for $139.
