DC To Get Giant Trump Ego Monument Possibly Very Soon

DC To Get Giant Trump Ego Monument Possibly Very Soon

Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest development in the Trump administration’s plan to build a 250-foot triumphal arch in the nation’s capital, and I have to say, it’s a doozy. The Justice Department has told a judge that construction on the arch could begin in just two weeks, days after the midterm elections. Because, you know, what’s a better way to celebrate democracy than building a giant arch that’s been compared to a “ceremonial gateway” to the nation’s capital? I mean, who needs subtlety when you can have a massive structure that’s sure to be a conversation starter?

The National Capital Planning Commission is set to meet on November 5 and could sign off on final plans for the arch that day, with construction potentially commencing as early as November 5, 2026. Because, you know, the Trump administration is all about speedy decision-making and not at all about, say, trying to rush through a controversial project before anyone can stop it. The administration released final plans for the arch last week, which excluded key features of a military complex, including drones and snipers that Trump has used as justification for the project. Instead, the plans describe the project as a “ceremonial gateway” to the nation’s capital, because who needs national security when you can have a fancy arch?

Now, I know what you’re thinking – what about the military components that Trump announced in September? Well, it turns out that those might still be included in the structure, even though they’re not in the plans submitted last week. Because, you know, details are overrated, and who needs transparency when you’re building a giant arch? The massive arch would sit directly across from Arlington National Cemetery, where nearly 430,000 service members, veterans, and their family members are buried. Veterans suing to stop its construction argue that the towering structure would break the solemnity of funerals at the cemetery, while preservationists argue it would disrupt the sightline of the row of national landmarks that includes the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington House, and the Robert E. Lee Memorial.

An Interior Department spokesperson told CNN that the structure will “enhance the visitor experience at Arlington National Cemetery for veterans, the families of the fallen, and all Americans alike.” Because, you know, nothing says “enhanced visitor experience” like a giant arch looming over the graves of fallen soldiers. The proposed arch is among several projects Trump is pursuing in an effort to remake the nation’s capital to his own personal liking, prompting legal battles from preservationists and others. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’re getting treated to a media frenzy about the arch’s potential impact on national security.

You can’t make this stuff up, folks. The idea of the arch being needed for national security purposes mirrors an argument Trump has made for building a White House ballroom where the East Wing once stood. Because, you know, what’s a better use of taxpayer dollars than building a ballroom in the White House? Aleena Fayaz and Sunlen Serfaty contributed to this report, and I’m sure they’re just thrilled to be covering this story.

In conclusion, the Trump administration’s plan to build a 250-foot triumphal arch in the nation’s capital is a joke, and I’m not sure what’s more ridiculous – the idea of building a giant arch in the first place or the fact that they’re trying to rush it through before anyone can stop it. Either way, it’s been a wild ride, and I’m just here for the coffee and the entertainment. Bless their hearts, indeed – it seems like they need all the blessings they can get to pull off this debacle 🙄.
