It’s unclear how they plan to do this, but I’m sure it’ll be a real amateur detective fest. The authorities, meanwhile, are still waiting for toxicology test results to come back, which could take weeks. Because, you know, science takes time.
The Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting the official autopsy, and the Wells family has also hired their own medical examiner to take a look at the body. Because, why not? The more cooks in the kitchen, the better, right? The family’s lawyer, civil rights attorney Ben Crump, has expressed skepticism that Wells may have drowned, citing the fact that Wells was a strong athlete and knew how to swim. Fair enough, but I’m no expert, so what do I know?
The whole thing is just a big mess, with everyone pointing fingers and speculating about what might have happened.
