Oh boy, are you guys ready for some news that’s been a long time coming? 🤯 MASTODON’s new album, “Marrow Deep”, is finally dropping on August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings, and I’m shocked, SHOCKED, that it’s taken this long for the band to get their act together 🙄. I mean, it’s not like they’ve been sitting on this material for, oh, say, nine or ten months or anything 🙃. According to Troy Sanders, the band’s been “living with it” for quite a while, and I’m pretty sure that’s just code for “we’ve been arguing about the mixing for months” 🤷♂️.
So, what can we expect from this new album? Well, for starters, it’s got a brand new guitarist, Nick Johnston, who’s brought some fresh ideas to the table, and I’m sure that’s just what the doctor ordered to spice things up 🎸. Troy says that Nick’s contributions have added a new flavor to the record, and I’m pretty sure that’s just a nice way of saying that Bill Kelliher’s riffs were getting a bit stale 😴. But hey, who needs stale riffs when you can have new, exciting ones, right? 🤔
The Heavier Side of MASTODON
One thing that’s got everyone excited is the heavier direction of “Marrow Deep” compared to its predecessor, “Hushed And Grim”. I mean, who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashioned heavy album, am I right? 🤟♂️. According to Troy, the writing process was a bit of a “knee-jerk reaction” to what they’d been doing previously, and I’m pretty sure that’s just code for “we got bored with the old sound and wanted to try something new” 🙄. But hey, who can blame them? I mean, “Leviathan”-era MASTODON is some of their best work, and if they can recapture that magic, I’m all for it 🔮.
And let’s not forget about the upcoming “The Poisonous Weapons Tour” with DEAFHEAVEN and ALCEST, because what’s a new album without a fancy tour to go along with it, right? 🎟️. I mean, it’s not like they’re just trying to cash in on their new material or anything 🤑. But hey, who can blame them? I’d go see them live too, if only to see if they can still bring the heavy 👊.
A New Era for MASTODON
It’s worth noting that this album marks a bit of a new era for MASTODON, with Nick Johnston on board and the passing of founding guitarist Brent Hinds (RIP, dude 🙏). I’m pretty sure that’s just a nice way of saying that the band’s got a bit of a identity crisis going on 🤷♂️, but hey, who doesn’t love a good reboot, right? 🔄. And with João Nogueira on keys, it’s like they’re trying to create some kind of supergroup or something 🤩.
So, there you have it, folks. MASTODON’s “Marrow Deep” is coming, and it’s going to be a wild ride 🎢. Or, at the very least, it’ll be a decent addition to their discography, and I’ll be happy to add it to my collection 🎶. Stay tuned for more updates, and try not to get too excited, okay? 😴
