Folks, I’m reading this article on CNN while sipping my morning coffee, and I’ve got to say, it’s a wild ride. Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and close adviser, met with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to discuss ways the White House can collaborate with Democrats on key issues. I mean, who wouldn’t want to talk about immigration, housing, and the cost of living over a cup of coffee? Sounds like a real party. The source says they had a private meeting in New York, because, you know, that’s not a secretive thing to do at all.
So, apparently, Kushner and Jeffries have worked together before on The Step Act, which is a law that aims to reduce the federal prison population. That’s all well and good, but I’m not sure what’s more surprising – the fact that they’re working together or that they’re actually trying to get something done in Washington. According to the article, Kushner suggested that Jeffries should meet with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, because why not, right? It’s not like they’re trying to make some kind of backroom deal or anything.
The New York Times first reported on this meeting, and now CNN is all over it, trying to get a comment from the White House. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that this meeting happened several weeks ago, and we’re only hearing about it now. Jeffries is apparently the front-runner to become House speaker if Democrats win the majority in the midterms, which, according to CNN, is a real possibility due to President Trump’s sinking approval ratings. I mean, who doesn’t love a good underdog story?
Jeffries has been pretty vocal about his opposition to Trump, frequently bashing him in interviews and press conferences. He even hasn’t ruled out potentially impeaching Trump if House Democrats hold the majority next year. But, of course, he’s focused on lowering costs for Americans, because that’s what really matters. As he said in a statement, “The American people want bold change and that’s what House Democrats will deliver.” I’m not sure what’s bolder – his statement or his hairstyle.
GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson, on the other hand, is downplaying the whole thing, saying that the meeting doesn’t signal an acknowledgement by Trump that he might have to work with a Democratic majority. Johnson thinks they’re going to “defy history” and hold their majority, which is cute. Kushner, according to Johnson, is just “a smart guy who hedges his bets.” I’m not sure what that means, but it sounds like something my grandma would say.
In conclusion, it’s all just a big game of politics, folks. Kushner and Jeffries are trying to make nice, while Johnson is trying to hold on to power. And we’re all just sitting here, sipping our coffee, wondering what’s going to happen next. As I always say, you can’t make this stuff up – but somehow, CNN manages to make it sound even more dramatic. 🙄 With the national debt reaching $40 trillion and the Iran war looming, it’s a wonder anyone can keep a straight face in Washington. Bless their hearts, indeed.
