Well, folks, it looks like Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport is having a bit of a rough month. I mean, who needs a smooth takeoff when you can blow two tires on the taxiway, right? An American Airlines plane did just that on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure that’s not how you’re supposed to start a flight. And to make matters worse, this is the fourth tire mishap in a month at the airport. You’d think they’d have gotten the whole tire thing down by now.
I’m sipping my coffee and reading about how passengers had to use stairs to deplane and were taken by bus to the terminal. I guess that’s one way to get some exercise before your flight. The FAA is investigating the incident, because, of course, they are. I mean, it’s not like they have anything better to do. CNN is also trying to get more information from the airport, but I’m sure it’s just a big coincidence that all these tire issues are happening at the same airport.
The airline itself said that “Shortly after ​pushing back ​from ​the gate ​at ​Chicago ​O’Hare ​International Airport ​(ORD), American Airlines flight 3280 experienced a tire ​issue on ​the taxiway.” Wow, that’s a mouthful. I’m surprised they didn’t just say “our plane had a tire problem, sorry not sorry.” The affected airplane is a Boeing 737-800, and it was supposed to go to Charlotte, North Carolina. I hope the passengers got to their destination eventually, without any more tire-related drama.
This incident is just the latest in a series of tire issues at Chicago airports during the busy summer travel season. Last Monday, two planes suffered tire damage after landing at O’Hare just hours apart. I’m starting to think that O’Hare has a tire problem. And three days earlier, a United flight had to abort takeoff after suffering tire damage at the same airport. Maybe they should just invest in some spare tires or something.
It’s not just O’Hare, though – Chicago Midway International Airport had a tire-related incident earlier this month when a Southwest Airlines flight lost nose-gear tire pressure while landing. I’m starting to think that Chicago just has a thing against tires. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying and decided to make a big deal out of it. But hey, at least it’s making for some interesting reading.
In conclusion, it seems like Chicago’s airports are having a bit of a tire-filled month. Who knew tires could be so exciting? I’m just glad I’m not flying out of O’Hare anytime soon. And on a lighter note, I guess this is what they mean by “turbulent” air travel. 😂
