Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and trying to make sense of this latest development in the saga of Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Todd Blanche. It seems Blanche has formally rescinded the president’s $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund, which was a major point of contention for Senate Republicans. I mean, who wouldn’t want to give taxpayer money to people who claim they’re victims of weaponization by the federal government? Sounds like a totally reasonable use of funds to me. Anyway, Blanche made the announcement on Sunday, and it’s a big deal because it might just save his nomination from being blocked by Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis.
I have to say, I’m a bit surprised by this move. I mean, Blanche had already said the fund was “dead,” but I guess that wasn’t enough for Cornyn and Tillis. They wanted it in writing, and now they’ve got it. The document released on Sunday also limits the addendum to the agreement that offers the president and his family immunity from tax investigations. Because, you know, that’s not a controversial thing at all.
It’s been a wild ride for Blanche’s nomination, with Trump threatening to pull it and renominate him after Cornyn and Tillis leave the Senate next year. But it looks like they’ve reached some kind of agreement, and Blanche’s nomination might just make it through after all. I’m not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that Blanche caved on the “anti-weaponization” fund or the fact that Trump didn’t tweet about it (at least, not yet).
The whole thing is just a big mess, if you ask me. I mean, Trump’s been defending the “anti-weaponization” fund, saying it’s a great idea and that he’ll put it back on the table if the Senate doesn’t confirm Blanche. And then there’s the fact that the fund would have reimbursed his supporters and allies for the “pain” they’ve suffered. Because, you know, being a Trump supporter is just so hard.
As I finish my coffee, I have to wonder what’s next in this saga. Will Blanche’s nomination make it through the Senate? Will Trump find a way to revive the “anti-weaponization” fund? And what’s the deal with Cornyn and Tillis, anyway? Are they just trying to stick it to Trump, or do they actually care about the whole “anti-weaponization” thing?
In the end, it’s all just a big game of political chicken, and I’m just here for the entertainment value. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy the show. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll look back on this whole thing and laugh. Or maybe we’ll just shake our heads and wonder what could have been. Either way, it’s been a wild ride, folks. 🙄
