Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about a gruesome murder in Great Falls, Virginia, and I’ve got to say, it’s a real shocker. A 19-year-old man, Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos, has been arrested in connection with the death of 42-year-old Carmen Lizet Puch, who was found dead in a park parking lot on Monday. According to Fairfax County police, Cedillos-Campos and Puch were coworkers and had an “intimate relationship” – whatever that means. I’m sure we’ll find out more about that later.
The police chief, Kevin Davis, said that the victim suffered “numerous stab wounds in a really brutal, unspeakable way.” That’s just horrific. And to make matters worse, the police have video footage of Cedillos-Campos arming himself with a knife and wearing black latex gloves before heading out to commit the crime. It’s like something out of a bad movie.
Now, I know some people are going to jump all over this story and start yelling about immigration, since Cedillos-Campos is an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. The fact is, this guy allegedly committed a heinous crime, and that’s what we should be focusing on. Not his immigration status.
The police are still investigating, and more details will be released on Wednesday afternoon. I’m sure we’ll learn more about the “intimate relationship” between Cedillos-Campos and Puch, and maybe even some other juicy details. But for now, let’s just say that this is a really sad and disturbing story.
Somewhere in a newsroom, a producer is probably thinking, “This is going to be a great story to tell!” And I guess it is, in a morbid kind of way. But for the rest of us, it’s just a reminder that there are some really bad people out there, and we should all be grateful for the police who work hard to keep us safe.
As I finish my coffee, I’m left thinking about the poor victim, Carmen Lizet Puch, and her family. It’s just a terrible tragedy, and I hope they get the justice they deserve. And as for Cedillos-Campos, well… let’s just say I hope he enjoys his time in prison. With a story like this, you can’t help but think, “What is wrong with people?” 🙄
