Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. So, controversy-loving Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as announced by the Department of Homeland Security on Friday. He was arrested on Thursday at a Louisiana airport and remains in custody as of Friday afternoon. It seems he chose to overstay his welcome in violation of US nation’s laws. Now, I’m not sure what he was thinking, but I guess he didn’t get the memo that you need to follow the rules, not just make them up as you go along.
Milo Yiannopoulos is known for being a right-wing provocateur. He gained a reputation for stoking tensions and bringing his perspective to college campuses, where he believed liberal ideas may dominate the campus conversation. He has been known to voice his support for immigration enforcement, saying that anyone who can’t prove they are in the US legally should be deported. He has also identified himself as a “retired civil rights icon” and has voiced his opinions about Muslims, transgender people, and others.
In 2017, Yiannopoulos attracted considerable public attention after embarking on a bus tour of US college campuses, which he branded the “Dangerous F*ggot” bus tour. His appearances on some campuses drew loud protests, though many demonstrations were peaceful. He has also been known to connect his support with the conservative movement that drove Trump’s successful campaign.
He has previously been banned from Twitter, now known as X. He was seen as an instigator of online attacks on Leslie Jones, the former Saturday Night Live comedian. He has also been known to make comments that appeared to condone pedophilia, though he later resigned from Breitbart amid backlash to his comments. Yiannopoulos has also been known to voice his support for the 2024 presidential campaign of Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West.
In recent years, Yiannopoulos has said that he no longer identifies as gay. He has also been known to voice his opinions about the Republican Party, saying that “mainstreaming homosexuality in the Republican Party is the great regret of my life.” He has also been known to work as an unpaid intern for former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a lighting rod Republican from Georgia.
Now, I’m not sure what to make of all this, but it seems like Yiannopoulos has been quite the character. He has been known to stoke tensions and bring his perspective to college campuses, and he has also been known to make comments that appear to condone pedophilia. It’s all a bit confusing, but I guess that’s what happens when you’re a right-wing provocateur. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
