Oh boy, are you guys ready for some deliciously catty drama? 🍿 Because I’ve got a treat for you: John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten, is still salty about his former bandmates in the Sex Pistols touring without him. Like, who wouldn’t be? I mean, it’s not like they’re just a bunch of old guys trying to relive their glory days or anything… 🙄
So, on the October 15 episode of Good Morning Britain, Lydon was asked about his thoughts on the Sex Pistols’ decision to reform with Frank Carter on vocals, and he had some… choice words. He called them “deceitful, lying hyenas” and said that they’re just imitating him, which is “really kind of insulting.” Wow, harsh words, John. I’m shocked. 🙄
The Backstory
For those who may not be aware, the Sex Pistols’ reunion tour features Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock, with Frank Carter of Gallows and The Rattlesnakes on vocals. The tour has been going on since September 2024, and Lydon has been very vocal about his disapproval. In fact, he’s been calling them a “karaoke band” and saying that they’re trying to “trivialize the whole show.”
I mean, can you blame him? I wouldn’t want to see my former bandmates touring without me either. That’s just awkward. But at the same time, come on John, you’re not exactly known for being the most diplomatic guy in the world. Maybe try to keep the insults to a minimum? Or not. I mean, it’s not like I’m here for the drama or anything… 🍿
Lydon’s Rants
In a February 2025 interview with The I Paper, Lydon said that when he first heard about the Sex Pistols touring without him, it “pissed him off” and “annoyed” him. He also stated that he’s never sold his soul to make a dollar and that he’s proud of being “difficult to work with.” Wow, what a rebel. 🙄
I’m not sure what’s more entertaining, Lydon’s rants or Steve Jones’ attempts to play it cool. In a recent interview with Westword, Jones said that Frank Carter is a “real pro” and that he likes his voice. He also said that Lydon is just being Lydon, and that he’s never going to be happy for anyone. Ah, the classic “he’s just jealous” defense. 😂
But in all seriousness, it’s pretty sad to see these guys still bickering like children. Can’t they just get along and make some music together? Or not. I mean, it’s not like I’m holding my breath or anything… 🙄
So, what’s the takeaway from all this drama? Well, for one, John Lydon is still a punk rock icon with a penchant for controversy. And two, the Sex Pistols are still touring without him, and they’re still making music that’s probably not as good as their old stuff. But hey, who am I to judge? Maybe you’ll enjoy their karaoke renditions of “Anarchy in the U.K.” and “God Save the Queen.” 🎸
In conclusion, this whole drama is just a big mess, and I’m here for it. So, grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the trainwreck that is the Sex Pistols’ reunion tour. And who knows, maybe John Lydon will even show up and cause some chaos. A guy can dream, right? 😂
