JAY-Z returned to Yankee Stadium on Saturday, July 11th, to play the second of three consecutive shows this weekend. After celebrating the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt on Friday, he performed the bulk of The Blueprint to mark its 25th anniversary.
JAY-Z opened with “The Ruler’s Back,” bringing out Slick Rick to help set the tone before the hip-hop legend performed “La Di Da Di.” After skipping “Takeover” (for obvious reasons), HOV then proceeded to run through the rest of the album in full with highlights including “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “U Don’t Know,” “Never Change,” “Song Cry,” and “All I Need.” Eminem joined JAY-Z for “Renegade” and also stuck around to perform his own hit single “Lose Yourself.”
Setlist and Special Guests
After a brief interlude, Hov returned for a shortened second act featuring “Empire State of Mind,” a Pharrell-assisted run of “Excuse Me Miss,” “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me),” “Frontin’,” and “Allure,” and a final stretch that included “N***as in Paris,” “Big Pimpin’,” “Public Service Announcement,” and, fittingly, “Encore.” Check out the full setlist below, and see Eddie Fu’s full review of the night here.
