I mean, you can’t blame them for being cautious, but it turns out there was no credible threat after all. Bless their hearts for trying to keep everyone safe, though.
So, the plane was headed from Miami to Seattle, and the pilot reported that there were threats coming from customers on board. The air traffic control audio is pretty interesting, with the pilot saying they want to go into a lockdown protocol and shut down the engine. The controller responds with a calm “Alright, copy,” which I guess is pilot speak for “got it.” Anyway, the pilot also mentions that the flight attendants had received threats from customers, which is never a good thing.
The controller asks if they need to contact law enforcement, and the pilot says “Absolutely,” which is just about the most straightforward answer you can give in that situation. So, the plane heads back to the gate, and law enforcement is waiting to respond. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Airport District deputies showed up, and I’m sure it was a real scene. I can just imagine the passengers being all like “what’s going on?” and the flight attendants trying to keep everyone calm.
It’s worth noting that two passengers were removed from the plane and later rebooked on another flight. I guess they were the ones making the threats, but I’m not really sure. The investigation found that there was no credible threat, so it’s all a bit of a mystery. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now it’s all over the news. I’m just glad everyone is safe, even if it was a big ordeal.
The flight eventually took off, about two hours late, and everything seemed to be fine after that. I guess it’s just one of those things that happens sometimes, and you have to be prepared for anything when you’re flying. The Miami International Airport directed CNN to the airline and sheriff’s office for more information, but I’m not really sure what else there is to say.
