Oh boy, are you guys ready for some feels? 🤯 MASTODON’s Brann Dailor just opened up about the title of their latest album “Marrow Deep” and I’m not crying, you’re crying 😭. The album, which was released on August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings, is a deep dive (pun intended) into the band’s emotional struggles, including the death of former guitarist Brent Hinds and Brann’s mother. Because, you know, life is just one big emotional rollercoaster 🎠.
So, what’s the big deal about “Marrow Deep”? Well, according to Brann, it’s all about the deep, meaningful relationships in life. You know, the kind that make you feel all the feels 🤗. He said: “The marrow deep, it’s as deep as you can get into a relationship. So, first and foremost my mother, but then a brother of 25 years. And when you kind of go deep into writing deeply emotional music with other people and you sort of bare your soul with them and have that primitive, ritualistic… You kind of tap into the children that still kind of live inside you. That’s, I feel, as deep as you can get into a relationship.” Wow, deep, dude 🤯.
The Story Behind the Album

I mean, who hasn’t lost a band member and a family member in the same year, right? 🤷♂️. Brann continued: “A lot of people are friends with, and they have friends, they have really close friends, and you’re super-close friends, but there’s something about creating art with another person that, for me, elevates a friendship past the normal hanging-out-and-helping-me-move friendship levels we got there.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what I think about when I’m listening to MASTODON – moving 🏠.
The album was co-produced by MASTODON at their own West End Sound in Atlanta with Patrik Berger (Lana Del Rey, Charli XCX) and Kurt Ballou (HIGH ON FIRE, CONVERGE) and was mixed by Andrew Scheps (Adele, BLACK SABBATH, METALLICA). Because, you know, when you’re feeling down, you need a little help from your friends 🤝. And, let’s be real, the album’s got some big names attached to it, so it’s gotta be good, right? 🤑.
Tour Time!
But, enough about the album, let’s talk about the tour! 🎉 MASTODON will be hitting the road with DEAFHEAVEN and ALCEST on “The Poisonous Weapons Tour” because, you know, who doesn’t love a good poisonous weapon? 🤺. The tour kicks off on September 16 in Orlando and will make its way across the country before closing out on October 24 at Sick New World Dallas. Because, you know, Texas 🤠.
