Oh boy, are you guys ready for some news that’s going to blow your mind? 🤯 P.O.D. is back with a new album, and I’m not sure if I should be excited or just relieved that they’re still making music. I mean, it’s not like they’re getting any younger, but hey, who needs youth when you’ve got experience, right? 😂
So, the band’s guitarist, Marcos Curiel, and bassist, Mark “Traa” Daniels, recently sat down with FemMetal to talk about their upcoming album, which was recorded in Philadelphia with the help of Grammy-winning producer Will Yip. Because, you know, what’s more metal than recording an album in the city of brotherly love? 🤣 Marcos said that working with Will was a dream come true, and that he’s a huge fan of his work, which is pretty cool, I guess. I mean, who wouldn’t want to work with a producer who’s won a Grammy? 🏆
The New Album
The album, which is set to be released soon (no official date has been announced yet, because why would they make it easy for us?), is said to be an extension of their previous album, “Veritas”, but with a fresh new sound. Because, you know, who needs to reinvent the wheel when you can just add some new spices to the same old recipe? 🍴 Marcos said that there are some threads coming from “Veritas”, but that the new album is also a growth, whatever that means. I’m sure it’ll all make sense when we hear the album, right? 🤔
Traa added that Marcos had an amazing concept for the record, and that it’s going to be thought-provoking. Because, you know, what’s more thought-provoking than a bunch of dudes in their 40s making music about… whatever it is they’re making music about? 🤷♂️ He also said that it’s definitely going to be a P.O.D. album, but that it’s going to throw people for a loop. So, I guess that means it’s going to be a surprise? 🎉
Meanwhile, vocalist Sonny Sandoval told Teraz Rock that the band spent a couple of weeks in Philadelphia recording the album, and that it was their first time recording outside of California. Because, you know, why would you want to record an album in a state with perfect weather when you can do it in a city with a rich history of crime and poverty? 🤣 Sonny said that they were more prepared to go into the studio this time, and that Will Yip is a genius. Because, you know, who needs to be modest when you’re working with a Grammy-winning producer? 🙄
Recording Process
Marcos said that they tracked 13 or 14 songs in 12 days, which is pretty impressive, I guess. I mean, who needs to take their time when you’re making music, right? 🕒 He also said that the songs came out dope, and that they’re extremely proud of it. Because, you know, what’s more important than being proud of your music? 🤷♂️ Traa added that it was good to get out of their element and record in a new city, because, you know, why would you want to record an album in a place with a beautiful beach when you can do it in a city with a rich history of… well, you get the idea. 🤣
