Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and trying to wrap my head around this Tupac murder trial. Defense Attorney Michael Sanft is making some interesting arguments, to say the least. He’s been consistent in saying his client, Duane “Keffe D” Davis, is a liar. Yeah, that’s right, a liar. Sanft claims Davis’ admissions over the years, including a 1998 police interview, proffers, podcasts, a documentary series, and his 2019 memoir, are all just a big work of fiction. He even summarized it on a slide in all capital letters: “BULLSH*T.” I mean, you can’t make this stuff up.
I’m reading through the article, and it seems Sanft is arguing that time, corruption, and a lack of actual facts are going to be a challenge in this case. He’s calling the detective who took over the case “biased, sloppy, and incomplete,” and he’s questioning why Davis wasn’t charged years earlier. I’m no lawyer, but it sounds like Sanft is trying to poke some holes in the prosecution’s case.
Sanft rested his case in under two hours, calling only three witnesses. He brought in two former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers who were guarding Marion “Suge” Knight’s house the night of the shooting, as well as a Las Vegas homicide detective who was present for one of Davis’ proffer interviews with law enforcement in 2009. Former homicide detective Dan Long testified that he intended to write an arrest warrant after the 2009 interview, saying there was “plenty of probable cause” – but the district attorney’s office declined to charge. Hmm, sounds like there’s some drama going on behind the scenes.
After court on Thursday, Sanft said he’s glad the case is close to being done, as he and his team are “exhausted.” I don’t blame them; this case has been going on for years. Sanft also mentioned that he plans to say during closing statements, “I think it’s exactly what I said in my opening, so it’s not like it’s anything different. It’s just more of what the evidence has shown, instead of what the evidence will show.” Okay, got it, more of the same, I suppose.
In conclusion, this Tupac murder trial is getting more interesting by the minute. With Sanft’s defense strategy and the prosecution’s case, it’s hard to predict what the outcome will be. One thing’s for sure, though – this trial has been a wild ride. And as I finish my coffee, I’m left thinking, what’s next? Will justice finally be served, or will this case continue to be a mystery?
