Oh boy, are you guys ready for some exciting news? 🤯 I mean, I can barely contain my enthusiasm… Queens of the Stone Age just played their new song “Where The Goth Girls At?” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and I’m just so… thrilled. 😴 I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch a bunch of middle-aged dudes play a song about goth girls on a late-night talk show? It’s not like we’ve all been waiting for this moment our entire lives or anything. Anyway, the song is from their upcoming album “Perfecth”, which is set to release on October 30 via Matador Records. Because, you know, the world was just missing a new QOTSA album. 🙄
The song “Where The Goth Girls At?” is the third single from the album, following “Easy Street” and “Insignificant Other”. Because, you know, we all need more songs about goth girls in our lives. Frontman Josh Homme reflected on his youth in the suburbs of Palm Desert, California, and how he used to watch goth girls working at JCPenney, giving goth makeovers to old ladies. Ah, the classic tale of teenage love and goth girls. Who can’t relate to that?
The Lyrical Inspiration
Homme stated, “Watching the goth girls working the counter at JCPenney and giving goth makeovers to the old ladies, that’s when I knew the only place I want to be is where the goth girls at. Teenage love, ain’t it grand?” Wow, I’m just so touched by the depth of his lyrics. I mean, who wouldn’t want to write a song about goth girls working at JCPenney? It’s not like that’s a weird or specific thing to write about or anything.
The official music video for “Where The Goth Girls At?” was released last month, directed by Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski, and features comedian Steve Agee, dancer/artist Scarlett Kapella, and singer/actress Lou Lou Safran, alongside members of QOTSA. Because, you know, we all need more music videos with random celebrities in them.
The Album
The album “Perfecth” was produced by Homme and bandmember Michael Shuman, and will be available on CD, standard black vinyl, and clear vinyl at indie retailers. Because, you know, we all need more vinyl in our lives. The album will also be available as a limited deluxe edition, which includes handwritten lyrics, stationary, “stamps” housed inside a custom envelope, and a bespoke piece of art temporarily placed in a custom pocket. Wow, I’m just so excited about all the extra stuff we get with the deluxe edition. I mean, who wouldn’t want to pay extra for some handwritten lyrics and a custom envelope?
The album is all about love, family, friends, and others both significant and insignificant. Because, you know, we all need more songs about love and relationships. Homme said, “Every song sounds like it’s from a different world, and that’s on purpose, because it’s trying to stitch together all these emotions revolving around love, lust, foolishness, and the sort of wisdom that comes as a gift from all that.” Wow, I’m just so impressed by the depth of his statement. I mean, who wouldn’t want to listen to an album that’s all about love and emotions?
The record is called “Perfecth” because “perfect” is a word that’s never honest. Homme broke the word and made it “perfecth”, a more appropriate spelling for a term that never felt right to begin with. Wow, I’m just so touched by his cleverness. I mean, who wouldn’t want to rename a word just to make it sound cooler?
In conclusion, Queens of the Stone Age just played their new song “Where The Goth Girls At?” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and I’m just so… excited. I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch a bunch of middle-aged dudes play a song about goth girls on a late-night talk show? The album “Perfecth” is set to release on October 30, and I’m just so… thrilled. I mean, who wouldn’t want to listen to an album all about love and relationships? 🙄
