Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest drama surrounding Rep. Max Miller, and let me tell you, it’s a doozy. According to CNN, allies of Donald Trump are urging the president to convince Miller to drop out of his reelection bid due to allegations of domestic abuse from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up – the guy’s former father-in-law, Sen. Bernie Moreno, is even speaking out against him, saying he “should not serve” in Congress. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a full-blown media frenzy on our hands.
Now, I’m not one to jump to conclusions, but it seems like Miller’s got some serious issues to address. His ex-wife has accused him of multiple instances of domestic abuse, and there are even police videos to back up her claims. Miller, of course, denies all of this, saying his ex-wife is just trying to destroy his reputation. But still, you’ve got to wonder – what’s really going on here?
Trump, for his part, seems to be playing it cool, saying he believes Miller is “a very good person” and that he’s “going to let the families figure that out.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what you want to hear from the president – a big ol’ shrug. Meanwhile, Miller’s insisting he’s not going to drop out of the race, despite pressure from top House Republicans to do just that. You’ve got to admire the guy’s determination, even if you don’t necessarily agree with his tactics.
As the story unfolds, it’s getting harder and harder to keep track of all the twists and turns. Miller’s ex-wife has filed a request to reopen their custody agreement, and he’s filed a defamation case against her. There are restraining orders flying back and forth, and it’s all just a big mess. I mean, I’m no expert, but it seems like maybe, just maybe, Miller should take a step back and focus on getting his personal life in order before trying to run for office again.
In any case, it’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. Miller’s set to face Democrat Brian Poindexter in the midterms on November 3, and you’ve got to wonder if all this drama is going to hurt his chances. As for me, I’ll just be over here, sipping my coffee and watching the train wreck unfold.
