I mean, it’s not like we didn’t see this coming or anything. I’m shocked, SHOCKED, that the lead singer of a metal band would leave after only one album. I bet the other members of Delain are just devastated that they’ll have to find another talented singer to front their band 🤣. Anyway, Diana Leah has announced her departure from Delain, citing a desire to “pursue other things in life.” Yeah, because being in a metal band isn’t a thing in life, right?
Apparently, Delain is taking this opportunity to “embrace a new and exciting creative direction” by bringing in a bunch of other artists to collaborate on their next album. Because what every metal band needs is a bunch of guest vocalists to make their music sound like a messy, overcrowded party 🎉. I’m sure it’ll be a totally cohesive and not-at-all-confusing listening experience.
The “New” Delain: A Musical Collective?
So, Delain’s founder and songwriter, Martijn Westerholt, says that the band has always been about “bringing different musical worlds together.” And now, they’re taking that concept to a whole new level by basically becoming a musical collective. Because who needs a consistent sound or a dedicated lead singer when you can just have a revolving door of guest vocalists? 🤷♀️ It’s not like fans will get confused or anything. I mean, who needs a clear identity when you can just be a mishmash of different styles and voices?
According to Westerholt, the new album will feature a range of artists, including former Nightwish bassist/vocalist Marko Hietala and Within Temptation singer Sharon Den Adel. Because, you know, those two aren’t busy with their own projects or anything 🙄. I’m sure they just have nothing better to do than collaborate with Delain on their new album. And I’m sure it’ll be a totally natural and not-at-all-forced collaboration 🙏.
Diana Leah, on the other hand, is moving on to focus on her solo project, DYYA. She’s already released a few singles, including “Too Tired To Be Dead” and “Eternal Trophies.” Because, you know, the world was just missing a solo project from the former lead singer of Delain 🙄. I’m sure it’ll be a huge commercial success and not-at-all-a-vanity-project 🤑.
A Look Back at Diana Leah’s Time in Delain
So, Diana Leah joined Delain in 2022, replacing longtime vocalist Charlotte Wessels. She said at the time that she had always wanted to sing in a metal band, and Delain was her chance to do so. Because, you know, it’s not like she had any other options or anything 🤣. I mean, who wouldn’t want to join a metal band with a dedicated fanbase and a rich history? 🤷♀️
In a 2023 interview, Leah talked about her early musical influences, citing bands like Evanescence and Linkin Park. Because, you know, those bands are super relevant to the metal genre 🙄. I mean, who needs actual metal influences when you can just name-drop some popular rock bands? 🤷♀️
Anyway, Delain’s first post-Diana Leah single will be released tomorrow, October 20, via Napalm Records. I’m sure it’ll be a huge hit and not-at-all-a-desperate-attempt-to-stay-relevant 🤣. Stay tuned, folks! 🎉
