Oh boy, are you guys ready for some epic news? 🤯 QUEENSRŸCHE is working on a new album, and I’m not even kidding, it’s going to be a game-changer… or so they claim. I mean, who needs hype when you have Todd La Torre and Michael Wilton talking about their songwriting process, right? 😴
So, during an appearance on the October 22 episode of SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk”, La Torre and Wilton spilled the beans about the progress of their upcoming album, the follow-up to 2022’s “Digital Noise Alliance”. Because, you know, we were all waiting with bated breath for this announcement. 🙄 According to La Torre, they have a ton of work to do, and it’s all on him now. I mean, no pressure, Todd. The other guys have done their part, and now it’s time for him to throw some vocals down and arrange the tracks. Easy peasy, right? 🎤
But, let’s get real, folks. Writing on the road is not all it’s cracked up to be. La Torre said, “I don’t. It sounds good, but that’s kind of bullshit. You’re tired. We do 100 shows a year, and so it’s, like, you go home for three days. There’s no way I can force creativity. My ears need a break. I need to settle in. I have to do laundry. And then I’m packing, and I’m back at the airport again.” 😂 I mean, who can relate to that? 🙋♂️
The Songwriting Process: A Labor of Love (or Not)
Apparently, the band has been writing in separate sessions, with guitarist Mike Stone and Michael Wilton going to their producer Zeuss’ place to work on new ideas. Because, you know, that’s how you create magic. 🎸 La Torre explained that they would send him stuff, and he would listen and provide feedback. Yeah, because that’s not a recipe for disaster. 🤣
But, in all seriousness, the band seems to be excited about the new material, with Wilton saying that it sounds like old-school QUEENSRŸCHE, à la “Rage For Order” and “The Warning”. 🤘 Now, that’s what I’m talking about! 🎸
The Delay: A Tale of Woe
So, why the delay in releasing the new album? Well, according to Wilton, it’s all about the touring schedule and the economy. You see, bands don’t have the luxury of taking six months off to work on an album anymore. 🙅♂️ They have to make a living, and that means touring, touring, touring. 🚌 And, of course, there’s the small matter of the band’s last album on Century Media. No pressure, guys. 🤯
But, in all seriousness, the band seems to be taking their time to get it just right. La Torre said, “We’ve kind of told the booking agents to just kind of chill out and let us write this next record.” 🙏 I mean, who wouldn’t want to take a break from touring to focus on creating some epic music? 🤘
As for the concept of the new album, La Torre has been tight-lipped, but he did mention that it’s going to be based on a subject that QUEENSRŸCHE hasn’t talked about since their very first record. 🤔 He also said that it’s not a concept album, but more like a story that can be expanded upon in future releases. 📚 Because, you know, who needs a simple, straightforward album when you can have a complex, multi-part epic? 🤯
And, of course, no discussion of QUEENSRŸCHE would be complete without mentioning their working relationship with producer Zeuss. Wilton said, “We built such a relationship, and when he hears my ideas and my riffs and everything, he knows, and I trust him with his decisions.” 🤝 Because, you know, that’s what it’s all about: trust, creativity, and a little bit of magic. ✨
In conclusion, QUEENSRŸCHE is working on a new album, and it’s going to be… well, we’ll just have to wait and see. 🤔 But, with La Torre and Wilton at the helm, I’m sure it’ll be an epic ride. 🎢 So, stay tuned, folks, and try to contain your excitement. 😴
