Democrats Gather To Argue Over Who Loses To Republicans Next

Oh boy, folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. A group of potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidates is heading to Denver, just days after the midterms, to discuss the party’s future. I mean, who doesn’t love a good post-election autopsy? The “What’s Next” summit is being hosted by Majority Democrats, an organization that launched last year to help Democrats win in more places. Because, you know, that’s exactly what they need – more winning strategies.

The lineup of attendees is quite the who’s who of Democratic politics. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and former US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel will be there, along with Sens. Ruben Gallego of Arizona, Chris Murphy of Connecticut, Raphael Warnock of Georgia, and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan. And let’s not forget the governors – Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia will also be making an appearance. I’m sure it’ll be a real thrill-ride, folks.

The “What’s Next” summit is being held from November 12-14, and organizers are looking to move quickly to outline the lessons learned from the election. You know, the usual – what went wrong, what went right, and how to appeal to those pesky swing voters. In staging the event less than two weeks after the midterms, the group is hoping to get a jump-start on the next White House race. Because, you know, it’s never too early to start campaigning.

Rep. Jake Auchincloss of Massachusetts said in a statement, “This isn’t a policy conference nor a talk shop on tactics. What’s Next is timed for a unique moment after the midterms and before the presidential to debate a vision for the Democratic Party. Politicians who believe they have that vision should be on that stage.” Wow, I bet that stage is going to be just overflowing with visionaries.

Organizers chose Denver partly because it is one of the cities under consideration to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention. You know, because nothing says “exciting convention location” like Denver in the middle of summer. The initial lineup also includes top party strategists such as David Axelrod, Quentin Fulks, and Morris Katz. I’m sure they’ll all have some fascinating insights to share.

Majority Democrats is not the only organization holding an event in the immediate aftermath of the midterms. Two days after the election, some of the party’s most prominent strategists and commentators are set to converge in Washington, DC, for Crooked Con, which is hosted by the progressive media company Crooked Media. Because, you know, the Democratic Party can never have too many conferences and conventions.

In conclusion, the “What’s Next” summit is shaping up to be a real barnburner of an event. I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend three days in Denver listening to Democratic politicians and strategists talk about the future of the party? It’s not like they have anything better to do, like actually governing the country or something. Anyway, I’ll be over here, sipping my coffee and waiting for the inevitable post-summit think pieces to start rolling in. Bless their hearts.
