Oh no, System of a Down is still a thing and people are actually paying to see them live 🤯! I mean, who wouldn’t want to shell out $70 to $125 for a ticket to see a band that hasn’t released a new album in over 15 years? 🤑 It’s not like they’re just phoning it in at this point or anything. In a recent interview with the Essential Watches podcast, bassist Shavo Odadjian addressed the fact that his band is still somehow relevant despite their lack of new music. I guess it’s impressive that they can still sell out stadiums and rack up 26 million monthly listeners on Spotify, but come on, guys, it’s time to put out some new material or just hang it up already.
Shavo said that the band tries to keep ticket prices down, but let’s be real, they’re not exactly struggling to make ends meet. He also mentioned that the growth in their concert attendances can be attributed to “a lot of new kids coming in”, which is just code for “our old fans are getting too old for this shit and need to sit down”. And hey, who can blame them? I mean, have you seen the size of the venues they’re playing these days? It’s like they’re trying to make up for lost time or something.
The Never-Ending Hiatus
Shavo went on to talk about the band’s intermittent touring schedule and how they’re just doing “events” now instead of full tours. Because, you know, that’s not just a fancy way of saying they’re too lazy to put in the effort to create a real tour. He also mentioned that they took a hiatus because it “wasn’t fun” anymore, which is just a nice way of saying they all hated each other and needed some time apart. I mean, who hasn’t been there, right?
But hey, at least they’re having fun again, and that’s all that matters, right? I mean, who needs new music when you can just play the same old songs over and over again and still manage to sell out shows? It’s not like their fans are getting tired of hearing the same thing every time they go to a concert or anything. And hey, at least they’re consistent, right? They’ve only managed to record two new songs in the last 20 years, and those were just to support some charity or something. Priorities, people!
Australia and New Zealand, Get Ready!
System of a Down is set to return to Australia and New Zealand for the first time in over a decade in January and February 2027, because apparently, people in those countries have been clamoring to see them live or something. Special guest Faith No More will be joining them on tour, because why not? It’s not like they’re just trying to cash in on their nostalgia or anything. And hey, who knows, maybe they’ll even play some new songs or something (just kidding, they won’t).
In conclusion, System of a Down is still a thing, and people are still paying to see them live. Who knew? 🤷♂️ I guess it’s impressive that they can still draw a crowd, but come on, guys, it’s time to put out some new music or just hang it up already. Or maybe they can just keep touring and playing the same old songs over and over again, because that’s not getting old at all. 🙄
