So, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about Vice President JD Vance declining to endorse Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection, and I just can’t help but think, “Folks, this is getting interesting.” Vance said he’s focused on American candidates and isn’t getting involved in Israeli elections, which is fair enough, but it’s not like he hasn’t dipped his toes in international waters before. I mean, he did travel to Budapest, Hungary, to support Trump-endorsed Victor Orbán, so it’s not like he’s never gotten involved in foreign elections.
Vance’s comments came in an interview with journalist Mark Halperin aboard Air Force Two, where he stated, “I endorse American candidates, and that’s where I’m focused on is the midterm. I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections.” He also said he wasn’t for or against endorsing Netanyahu, which is a pretty diplomatic way of saying he’s not taking a stance. Bless their hearts, it’s like they’re trying to navigate a minefield without stepping on any toes.
Now, I know what you’re thinking – what about Trump’s endorsement of Netanyahu? Well, it seems like Trump had a change of heart, because just a few days ago, he was saying he wasn’t involved in Israeli politics anymore. But then, he goes and calls Netanyahu a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” on social media, which is just… quite a statement. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
It’s also worth noting that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made an unannounced trip to Israel, where he met with Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a whole CNN special dedicated to the “crisis” in Israel. I mean, I’m sure it’s all very serious, but can’t we just take a step back and enjoy the drama for what it is?
In the end, it seems like Vance is trying to distance himself from Trump’s endorsement, which is probably a smart move, considering the Midterms are just around the corner. And who knows, maybe Trump’s endorsement will actually hurt Netanyahu’s chances – stranger things have happened, right? As I finish my coffee, I just can’t help but think that this whole situation is a big ol’ mess, and I’m just here for the popcorn.
