Metallica blesses us with overproduced Lux Æterna video from Vegas residency because you clearly needed this

Oh boy, are you guys ready for some more Metallica?! 🤯 Because, you know, they haven’t been touring non-stop for the past 40 years or anything… The legendary metal band has just shared a professionally filmed video of their “Lux Æterna” performance from the third show of their “Life Burns Faster” residency, and I’m just soooo excited 🙄. I mean, who doesn’t love watching a bunch of 60-year-old dudes play the same songs they’ve been playing since the Reagan administration? 🤟

The residency, which is taking place at the fancy-schmancy Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, includes 24 performances presented as 12 “No Repeat Weekend” engagements in October, November, January, February, and March. Because, you know, the fans just can’t get enough of Metallica’s unique brand of aging-metal-guy-ness 🙃. Each Thursday and Saturday pairing features entirely different setlists, with no songs repeated between the two nights, because who needs repetition when you have a catalog as vast and exciting as Metallica’s? 😴

The Sphere: Where the Magic Happens (Apparently)

The Sphere, which has a 17,600-capacity venue, has been making waves in the live entertainment scene since opening in September 2023. It’s got all the bells and whistles: a state-of-the-art 16K resolution wraparound screen, a powerful sound system, and a bunch of other fancy tech stuff that I don’t really understand 🤷‍♂️. The venue has already hosted some big names, including U2, Phish, Dead & Company, and The Eagles, so I guess it’s a big deal or something 🎉.

According to SPIN magazine, the visuals at the Sphere are “the main focus,” but the sound does Metallica’s performance “justice.” Because, you know, it’s not like they’ve been playing these songs for decades or anything 🙄. The review goes on to say that Metallica’s “decades of musicianship are at their peak,” which is just a nice way of saying they’re old but still kinda cool, I guess 😎.

Lars Ulrich: The Mastermind Behind It All (Apparently)

When Metallica announced they were playing the Sphere, drummer Lars Ulrich said he was convinced he and his bandmates had to perform at the venue after seeing U2 open it up back in 2023. Because, you know, U2 is basically the coolest band ever 🙃. Ulrich said, “About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in ’23, I thought, ‘We have to do this. It’s completely uncharted territory.'” Yeah, because playing a fancy venue in Las Vegas is definitely “uncharted territory” for a band like Metallica, who have been touring non-stop for 40 years 🙄.

The residency runs from October 1 through March 13, 2027, because who needs a social life when you can just watch Metallica play the same songs over and over again? 🤷‍♂️. The band has already played to millions of fans across the globe on their current “M72” world tour, and I’m sure this residency will be just as exciting and not-at-all-repetitive 🎉. So, if you’re a die-hard Metallica fan, or just someone who loves watching old dudes play music, then this is the event for you! 🤟

And, as a final note, I just want to say that I’m soooo excited to see what other “unique” and “immersive” experiences Metallica has in store for us in the future 🤯. I mean, who knows, maybe they’ll even play some new songs or something 🎸! (Just kidding, that’s never going to happen 😂). Anyway, if you’re as stoked as I am (not really), be sure to check out the video of their “Lux Æterna” performance and get ready to rock out with the rest of the geriatric metal crowd 🤟👴.
